Why East Devon?
If you enjoy cycling in beautiful places, away from the crowds, East Devon is just the place. Still off the mountain bike map, it has miles of secret singletrack, ancient heathlands vibrant with the purple heather and yellow gorse, jaw-dropping views, as well as the spectacular beaches and red cliffs of the Jurassic Coast.
Your luxury accommodation
Surrounded by 17 acres of its own woodland, orchard, gardens and play areas, Mazzard Farm is a haven of peace and tranquillity, allowing you to relax and unwind. If the weather is a bit wintery, you can come home to the warmth of a wood burning stove and all cottages are equipped with digital TV, DVD player and Hi-Fi set. Most important, there will be somewhere safe to put your mountain bike!
All the cottages are furnished to a high standard of comfort and style, with good quality beds, kitchens and bathrooms as standard. Free WiFi is available on-site (and in most cottages). Breakfast can be provided – or you can prepare your own. The market town of Ottery St Mary is just down the road.
What to expect:
Friday
Arrive at Mazzard Farm and settle into your cottage. Hopefully you can get to us in time to join us for an introductory dinner at the Rusty Pig in Ottery St Mary and meet the rest of the group.
Saturday
A full day’s riding from the door taking in the Otter Valley on our way to Woodbury Common, which is the jewel in East Devon’s crown. This ancient heathland with fabulous views to the sea, and an amazing iron age fort, is also singletrack heaven. We’ll work our way round it and down to the sea at Budleigh Salterton for lunch. After which we will climb up to Muttersmoor for more views of the Jurassic coast and head back along the ridgeline to tea and cake. There are plenty of places to eat out in Ottery, Sidmouth and Honiton – or you can stay home and cook for yourselves.
Sunday
Again we ride from the door up onto East Hill from where we will explore the neighbouring Sid Valley, with plenty of singletrack on the ridge and bigger climbs and descents. We will stop for lunch at a local café and you will be back by 4pm at the latest, ready to set off home - although you are welcome to stay for a third night if you wish.
Who this weekend is for:
To come on this weekend you need to be fit enough to ride for about 4-5 hours at a moderate pace for two days in a row. You are comfortable riding on singletrack with tree roots and some small drop offs. You can deal with some steep sections with a loose surface.
Cost: £249 which covers:
3 nights accommodation (This means you can come back to the cottage for tea and a shower on Sunday, even if you don't want to stay the night)
2 days of guided mountain biking
Pizza and a drink at the Rusty Pig on Friday night
The cottages are self catering. Breakfast can be provided at £7.50 per person, per day. Accommodation is in a single room in a shared cottage. There is a discount of £25 per person if you share a room.
If you’ve got any questions, please get in touch. We’d love to have a chat with you. Tel: or email us. Local people are welcome to join just for the riding. Please read our terms and conditions before you book.
